“… yes the digital space is a big threat to the people who still use pen and paper. Quite a number of law firms closed down during COVID19 simply because they couldn’t switch from the manual system to digital…” Speaks David
Our Timeline
Lets Take A Journey Down Our Memory Lane
Start of the Firm
The firm started on 5th January 1997 with two people; the founding partner Mr. Arthur Igeria and Ms Hellen Waithira. Our first office was in the Hughes Building in the city. Our humble beginnings began in an office with only two rooms: the reception area and Mr. Igeria’s office. One of our initial customers was Sarabia Limited. In December, we had the honor of welcoming a new team member, Joseph Otieno who now served as the office clerk, which meant we split the two rooms into four.
More People Joined The Team
Five years down the line, we added another team member and extended the office space to fit more people. The firm took in pupils even in the early days and has managed to retain most of them. One of our partners, David Njoroge, started out as a pupil.
Evolution To Igeria & Ngugi Advocates
In between these years an evolution happened in leadership. Ben Ngugi joined the firm as an advocate in 2004 before he left momentarily to pursue his dreams in the private Sector. In October 2007, he came back as partner which brought about the birth of what is now Igeria & Ngugi Advocates. The partnership brought about a new revolution in the growth of the firm.
First Big Milestone
Our first big milestone happened! The firm took a bigger space on the 8th floor of Hughes Building. We were able to introduce board rooms, put up our signage and add more people to the team. The firm began to take shape all round.
Business Launch Of The Firm
Igeria & Ngugi Advocates launched as a business. Departments such as Dispute resolution, Commercial, Conveyancing and finance department were birthed. Before the departments were formed, everyone did everything. With the departments came growth of the firm, the team and the business. We were also able to introduce strategy meetings, quarterly meetings to review and restructure and internal interdepartmental challenges.
Break Through Year
With growth comes change! In the year 2018 we moved offices to Avenue 5 building where we are currently located. With the move came a hike in the growth curve, expansion of the business and new opportunities in the legal industry across the country. In the same year2018/2019, we hit the biggest milestones by landing our first big clients. Our biggest achievement however, was being able to retain that family aspect in the team and walk the journey of solutions with our clients. Success didn’t change us; rather, it highlighted the best qualities of Igeria & Ngugi Advocates.
Covid Year
COVID year! We felt the heat just like everyone else. 2020 served as a wakeup call to do things differently. We adapted to technology and working from home, simplified our processes and even had virtual court sessions! What a year!
We are 25!
We are 25! It looks bright. It has been quite the journey. We have grown our client portfolio, set high standards and are looking to build up the GLOCAL mantra. We will continue to serve local, regional and international clientelle, following the “global standards, local understanding” narrative.
